Chronicles of Building a 17,500 sq ft Quilt Shop

Howdy Quilters! We get questions about our new building all the time, and I need some serious venting therapy, so those two are going to intersect in this fun blog post 😁

We are planning to be in the new store around mid-October of 2019, and the shop will be located in Quitman, Texas.

We will be including lots of pictures and this will be a working blog post, meaning I will add to it as we near completion of our new facility. Hope y’all enjoy!

In the beginning…

We first met with our contractor in February of 2017. Yes, that is right, as of this writing we are over TWO AND A HALF years into this project. It has been a VERY long process, to say the least! But we are super excited for what we are going to be able to bring for you guys.

We formed the LLC holding company for this building that May.

We then went through a bunch of stuff that I will not bore you with. Needless to say, getting a SBA loan is not a “walk in the park.” However, on August 6, 2018 (a year and a half after our first meeting with our contractor), we closed on our loan!

December 5, 2018: Little did we know at the time, but we would be in for one of the rainiest seasons we have had in a long, long time. But we started moving dirt!

January 1, 2019: Got the plumbing roughed in!

January 30, 2019: Nearly SIX MONTHS after we closed on our loan, we had a slab!

March 8, 2019: Framing coming up!

March 14, 2019: Moving on along with framing!

March 21, 2019: We got a roof on it! It’s massive!

April 28, 2019: We were featured in the local telephone company, People’s, magazine!

May 17, 2019: Getting some framing up! Also, we decided the original plan of 15,000 sq ft was not large enough so we are moving dirt to add another 25′ x 100′ section!

  1. WOW!!! Looks amazing!! Good luck with everything, I will certainly stop in if I’m ever in you neck of the woods!

  2. Wow, it really is amazing to see all the work. Just mind boggling… about how many people will you employ in the new location? How long will it take to cross over, I.e. when will you close the old store? I’m thinking of taking a drive up before you do?

    1. We currently have about 30 employees, we will certainly be adding more at the new location. We haven’t nailed down the details of the move just yet. We might do it in phases and we might just close for a week. We believe that will be the week of Oct 14th. And we are doing a big moving sale at our old location if you want to come up for some deals! πŸ™‚

  3. Wow. We can see lots of thorough planning and prayer has to gone into a project of this magnitude. I live over 500 miles away but I plan to come visit your amazing quilt shop when completed.

    1. Hi Jan,
We have some big windows in the front of the store. We will also have a LOT of natural light LED bulbs. It will be very BRIGHT! πŸ™‚
